The carpet drag
If your dog has taken up dragging his rear across the rug, you've met one of the least dignified problems in dog ownership. Bailey, a 5-year-old Shih Tzu, started scooting after dinner one week, and his owner did the sensible thing: a puzzled look, a quick internet search, and a growing suspicion that the carpet was not the real issue.
Scooting usually points at the anal glands , two small scent sacs that normally empty on their own each time a firm stool passes. When stool is too soft to press on them, they don't empty well, and the discomfort sends a dog looking for relief on the nearest carpet.
Where fiber comes in
Here's the mechanism, and it's refreshingly physical. Firmer, bulkier stool presses on the glands as it passes and helps them express naturally, the way they're meant to. Soft stool doesn't provide that pressure, so the glands stay full. Add fiber to the diet and you bulk the stool directly, which restores the gentle pressure that keeps the glands emptying on schedule. This is plain plumbing, not a cure, so we keep the claim to what fiber actually does: it firms and bulks stool as a function of dose.
That's also why, in our system, this is the one place a single powder maps to a symptom. Fiber & Fortifier is the fiber-forward job, and extra fiber is the direct lever for soft stool and the scooting that can follow. Everywhere else we feed the gut as a whole; here, fiber does a specific physical job, and it's honest to say so plainly. That honesty cuts both ways: fiber genuinely helps this specific problem, and it genuinely won't fix an impacted or infected gland, which is a job for the vet.
How to feed firmer stool
Picture the gut as a garden and its lining as the soil. Gussy's Gut® uses whole foods run through a proprietary wild fermentation process that creates both probiotics and postbiotics, and the powders also contain prebiotic fiber.
Feed the whole garden. Ground it with Gussy's Gut Boost™, root it with Sustain™, fertilize it with Youthful Grasses & Sprouts™, and work the soil with Fiber & Fortifier™. Where stool is soft, Fiber & Fortifier is the one job that also bulks it directly, at up to a tablespoon per 20 pounds when needed. Feed about a teaspoon per 20 pounds of each powder, mixed into food, never dry. Add, stir, and serve.
Give it 90 consecutive days before you judge, because a gut settles slowly. If you're not willing to give it 90 days, this product may not be right for you. Your dog is not what they eat. It's what they can absorb.
Ongoing scooting, a strong smell, or swelling near the rear can mean impacted or infected glands, which need a vet, so don't leave it to the carpet. These statements haven't been evaluated by the FDA, and Gussy's Gut is a dog food supplement for everyday nutrition.
