Halloween Can Be a Gut Wrecker: What Dogs (and Cats) Should Avoid

Dog owners, beware. The only thing spookier than a haunted house is that your favorite treats can harm your dog. From chocolate to xylitol in other candies, the sweets we love are a major danger for your pet.

So while you enjoy the festive parties and trick-or-treaters, remember this list of what to avoid to make sure your Cujo is safe and sound.

Chocolate: Theobromine found in this classic candy can be especially harmful to dogs by stimulating the central nervous system and heart. Symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhea, and restlessness.

Xylitol: Often found in sugar-free gum, hard candy, and lollipops, this ingredient can trigger a rapid insulin release in your dog, causing a drop in blood sugar levels, which in turn could result in liver failure.

Other Scaries: Common snacks like raisins, grapes, and processed junk foods (along with wrappers) are also detrimental to your dog for their ability to cause gut distress.

Suffocations

Most people are just not aware of the surprising and horrifying statistics around pets suffocating from plastic bags and even chips bags. Halloween is a good time to remind our customers that this is a real possibility and our dogs and cats are at risk of serious harm from this.
